I recently made the decision to make most, if not all of my new designs limited editions. Really, my beads and jewelry have always been limited. There's only so many of each bead one human can make!
Previously though, I would reproduce my own designs over and over, sometimes for years. What's different now is that I'm only making a very small batch of each new design. I'm not going to be reproducing them ever. So once they're gone, they're gone. If you see a piece you love, get it now because there won't be more later.
This way of working has been very good for my creativity. It pushes me to continue learning new techniques, makes me continually develop new ideas and provides a satisfying creative outlet, which is a huge part of why I do this in the first place.
Being creative is something I have to do to feel and be my best. If I go for too long without making beads or jewelry, I just don't feel 100%. I always feel most happy and content with life when I'm creative regularly. I'm so grateful to have this outlet for my creative energy. Over the years it's been my rock and got me through many challenges.
It's a little terrifying (but mostly exciting) to commit to limiting the amount of each bead I make. Especially when so much effort goes into coming up with a good design in the first place. I mean, what if I run out of ideas?! Hopefully that doesn't happen. So far so good!
I haven't decided if I'll be making more of some of those older designs (especially the all time favorite Serenity Collection) that I've been making over and over for years now. I'm going to leave that open and see how things go. I haven't felt like making any of those designs for a while now anyway.
One place that I'll continue to reproduce older designs is my zipper pulls. I will be doing more limited edition zipper pulls too.
It's hard to believe I've been making beads for 23 years now, but that's really how long it's been. I'm excited for these changes and for this next chapter in my bead and jewelry making adventures. Thanks so much for reading this and for supporting my small business!
